about
Inspired by the Occupy Movement in St. Andrews Square in 2012.
There were people with no agendas and there were people with a broad range of issues on the agenda. I've tried to squeeze what seemed to be the most relevant ones into this song.
We were camped outside the Royal Bank of Scotland, charged by the people with being the chief sponsor of climate change on account of their investment in highly environmentally destructive projects that other banks wouldn't touch with a barge pole. Projects like the Tar sands.
They are also huge investors in UK heavy weapons manufacturers BAE systems. To hold an account with RBS is to some degree to be complicit in the the UK's agressive foreign policy. It seems the ministry of defense is more of a ministry of attack.
The problem with the banking system generally seems to be that most companies have no ethical criteria on which they loan money. Banks profit well from wars and environmental fuck-wittedness. The way round this is to move your money to a bank that has been rated with a higher ethical score and tell the bank why you are doing this. Where do you hold your account? Hold yourself accountable.
I have no real hatred of banks or bank managers though, they're only people. In my experience excessive greed is an expression of ignorance and illness. Maxing out on greed cam be an expression of a lovelessness, a repressed hurt, a wound that can be healed by applying the right pressure. This is what good pressure groups do, they apply pressure or "tough love" you might say, they're the healers of the political world.
I should say I have no real in depth knowledge of political issues, I'm no politico and am not really excited by arguments, my songs and my banter come from information and feelings I've picked up from the papers or the people I trust. Love and Trust go hand in hand, they don't need exceptional intelligence, they don't.... need.... they're free for all.
A small child can see that there is injustice and inequality in the world and that we can do something about it. Any old fool can see this. Growing up, perhaps.....
?
we can still do something about it.

Oh, the gap between the rich and the poor gets bigger
500 million is a pretty big figure
That's just a bonus for the royal bank
Power to the people and that's cashback
PEACEFUL PROTEST and DEMONSTRATION
RISING UP ACROSS THE NATION
Rise up
Once again
Rise up
My friends
Rise up
From the heart and soul
Rise up, rise up
LEt go
Rise up
From the belly of the beast
From St. Andrews Square to the middle-east
We are the Love police
PEACEFUL PROTEST and DEMONSTRATION
RISING UP ACROSS THE NATION
These are our streets this is our town
Right here, right now
Why are they
Squeezing the poor?
To make more and more and more
Squeezing the poor?
To make more and more and more
Squeezing the poor
To make more money for the rich
Something has to switch, switch, switch
